Course description
Framework for the Supervision of Midwives and Professional Leadership through the Statutory Supervision of Midwives. Time is also required for practice development experiences and will include:
Supervisory visits, including independent midwives, private sector institutions, other NHS Trusts, GP practices, Birth Centres
upervisory reviews
Developing strategies for continuing professional development, planning study leave, identifying needs, organising in-service training
Participation in audit, an LSA audit of supervision of midwives and standard setting
Attendance at either Local Supervisor of Midwives meetings or LSA Officers meetings or conferences
Attendance at Maternity Service Liaison Committees, PCTs and PALS (or similar)
Attendance at one NMC Professional Conduct Hearing is desirable
Teaching methods
The programme comprises two modules, and time for practice development experiences, including:
-Supervisory visits
-Supervisory reviews
-Developing strategies for CPD, planning study leave, identifying needs, organising in-service training
-Participation in an LSA audit of supervision of midwives and standard setting
-Attendance at either Local Supervisor of Midwives meetings or LSA Officers meetings or conferences
-Attendance at Maternity Service Liaison Committees, PCTs and PALS (or similar)
-Attendance at one NMC Professional Conduct Hearing is desirable
The credits gained from each of the two modules will enable you to continue your studies towards an MSc at the University of Hertfordshire.
