    Content details
    Topics studied on the course include Survival in Nature, Cells, DNA and Diseases, Sending Messages Around the Body, Staying Fit and Healthy, What are Things Made From?, Making Changes, There's One Earth, Properties of Materials and their Uses, Electricity: its Production and its Applications, Energy to Make Things Work, Electromagnetic Waves and their Uses, Exploring the Earth and Space. At the end of each unit learners will sit a test to assess there ability and learners will also produce two assignments one of which will be a practical investigation. Learners will also develop scientific skills such as carrying out basic scientific techniques, producing a scientific report and communicating ideas using scientific vocabulary.

    How is the course taught
    Teachers will use a range of practical demonstrations and ILT materials specifically adapted for ESOL learners to deliver this course.

    Assessment
    The Entry Level Certificate in Science is teacher assessed through unit tests, assignments and practical work.

    Course leads to
    Learners can progress from this course to the BTEC introductory certificate in applied science.
