Course description
The MA Art and Design Programme aims to provide you with an understanding of the cutting-edge of product design. It helps you develop your creative potential as a practitioner and provides you with the entrepreneurial and professional skills to work successfully within your field.
This programme considers product design from a wide range of perspectives. It looks both at design and society and people who use it. It is concerned with practical approaches to product design that pay attention to human users from ergonomic, ecological, social and psychological perspectives. Particular emphasis is given to a design that has a useful real-world application to design industry and will help students develop their careers as design professionals. The course is also concerned with the development of products in a post industrial age where technology and production may respond to customer demands with enormous speed.
Our staff are experienced in research, industry and professional practice. You will also benefit from contributions from visiting designers and design professionals, as well as from involvement with our international exhibitions programme. We also have close links with a wide range of industry partners and contributes to major national and international events in the industry.
This programme would be of interest to product and industrial designers and design professional working in related fields; those concerned with design management and production, ecology and sustainability and global production networks.

Particular emphasis is given to providing you with the skills necessary to further your career as a product designer. The course is designed to help you understand and work within the contemporary industrial environment and particular attention is given to helping you acquire entrepreneurial skills. Teaching methods
This course is designed to help you develop your practice and give you the skills recovery to further your career in industry both in the UK and abroad. The course includes practice based modules where you will explore and develop your work as a product designer. It also contains course or research skills, entrepreneurialism and professional practice. The final part of the course enables you to complete a major project.
