General programme structure
Once you’ve completed your first law degree (or the Graduate Diploma in Law) the LPC is the next significant step in your ladder of progression towards becoming a solicitor.
Whichever area you choose to work in – whether you are helping to close a deal on land purchase, working for an international corporation or a local high street firm – our course is your ticket towards a training contract.
Our small team of professionals are poised to ensure that you get the practical experience that will offer you opportunities to practise your new-found skills in real-life situations.
You will learn about the ethical basis, legal knowledge and financial skills that you use when evaluating clients’ legal problems. You will draw on your knowledge from different subject areas to consider all possible effective solutions and we will teach you how to implement those solutions to the best effect for your client.
Your core subjects will also include business law and practice, property law and practice and litigation. Whether you want to work in a large corporation or a small high street branch, we offer a comprehensive choice of electives in order to equip you to specialise in the areas of your choice.
Detailed programme structure
You will:

You will also choose to make close study of three electives chosen from the following:
-Commercial law
-Commercial leases
-Employment law
-Family law
-Housing and welfare law
-Insurance law and practice

-Private client
Learning and assessment
Assessment of the core subjects and electives is primarily by way of written exams. Some papers are closed book and some open. The pass mark is 50%.
Most of the formal assessment takes place at the end of each term in the relevant subjects, but some work is assessed during the term.
Skills such as advocacy and interviewing are assessed in role play scenarios. Interviewing is currently assessed in the context of Probate and Administration. The skill of writing is currently assessed in the context of Litigation (Civil). The drafting skill is currently assessed in the context of Property Law and Practice. Practical Legal Research is assessed at 2 points in the academic year. The pass standard for skills assessments is competency.
Business Accounts and Solicitors’ Accounts are assessed by way of closed book examinations at the beginning of the Spring Term. The pass mark is 50%.
Professional Conduct and Client Care (including Financial Services) is assessed as a pervasive subject in at least two assessments (40%) and as a discrete assessment paper purely on Professional Conduct and Client Care (including Financial Services) (60%). The competence mark for this pervasive is 50% of the total marks available.
