Detailed programme structure
The management of individuals with neurological impairment is a key focus for healthcare services both nationally and worldwide. The University of Plymouth Neurological Rehabilitation programme has been developed in consultation with local clinicians, service users and post graduate students, The programme is based within contemporary health care utilising learning outcomes and teaching material that have been developed utilising national and international policy, guidelines and frameworks.
The programme capitalises on the multi professional expertise within the Faculty and the programme is flexible and responsive enough to appeal to many different professions for example occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, dieticians, podiatrists. This provides excellent inter professional collaboration opportunities, with these elements particularly pronounced in modules utilising problem based learning approaches.
The School of Health Professions contains the rehabilitation research group led by Professor Jonathan Marsden. This not only offers many opportunities for linking research and teaching within the field but also potential dissertation projects using highly technical analysis equipment.
As part of the Faculty of Health and Social Work Integrated Masters Scheme the programme benefits from the experience of long running masters’ programmes taught and distance, existing in the faculty. A blended learning approach will be used offering opportunities for face to face teaching and electronic delivery.
The programme is transferable across health care settings nationally and internationally and will enable students to apply underpinning principles to their specific areas of work. It will encourage debate, critique and self analysis of a health care professional’s own practice in their work areas. Ultimately, it will enable students to promote and lead change and be responsive in a changing health care environment.
