Objectives
This excellent course is for graduates who wish to train as primary school teachers - we are one of only 7 UK higher education institutions to be awarded Category A status by Ofsted for this programme It is a one-year course that trains you to teach children from 5-11 years - if successful, you will be recommended to the DfES for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), as well as gaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which is worth 60 Masters-level credits You focus on the teaching of the National Curriculum for primary schools and specialise in teaching Key Stages 1 and 2 It is practically based, with a strong theoretical back up - it will also make you fully aware of recent educational developments such the National Primary Strategy and Every Child Matters Learning is through experience, exploration and research, and is technology supported - you will also be allocated a personal tutor and a mentor for the duration of the course All modules will provide examples of good teaching practice, and you will be expected to actively participate in your own learning and development You will undertake two school placements, in different schools, supported by a school-based tutor and a University tutor

Entry requirements
A UK-recognised Honours degree, or equivalent, preferably a 2:1 or above in a National Curriculum related subject, or evidence of related further education You must also have GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent, in English, Maths and a science subject - you must also have a good level of IT skills You should have recent experience in a primary school, with exposure to key stages and the day-to-day working of primary teachers, as well as evidence of interaction with primary age children Succesful completion leads to the award of a PGCE which includes 45 credits at Masters level, giving you a setp towards a higher degree
