Objectives
We aim to provide a comprehensive training for prospective managers in the international oil and gas industry. The programme covers the business of finding and producing hydrocarbons; including exploration, appraisal, development, production, environment issues, commerce and economics, legal, personnel / business management and health and safety. The aim is to integrate technical and management aspects to equip geoscientists and those from related disciplines for managerial roles in the oil industry.

Entry requirements
The programme is designed for experienced geologists, geophysicist and engineers with a background in the oil industry, whose career is moving into a managerial role. It is also suitable for business managers with some previous technical background, requiring improved knowledge of hydrocarbon exploration and production issues. Geologists / Geophysicists with 2-10 years experience in the oil or service industry. Business Managers with a technical background (initial degree in geology, geophysics or engineering preferred).

Course description
The programme combines an emphasis on academic excellence with industrial application. Students are expected to meet rigorous academic standards and to develop key analytical expertise. Taught programmes from October to April taught programmes comprise lecturers, practical exercises, tutorials, group projects. From May to September you specialise whilst undertaking an independent project, often carried out within the offices of a sponsoring oil company, providing valuable work experience. Fieldwork and site visits are also an important part of the course.

Progression and assessment
The programme has strong links with international oil companies and a proven track record for training in exploration and production geoscience to meet the needs of the oil industry. The teaching team is led by Dr Jonathan Redfern (Director of the Petroleum Geoscience Msc, who has many years experience with international oil companies). There is a strong industrial component with several course units taught by industry specialists and the potential to undertake research projects linked to oil companies.
