    MSc : 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time
    PgDip: 9 months full-time; 18 months part-time

    The programme is a professional qualification supported by regulatory bodies and voluntary organisations in the field of adult education. It is aimed at people who have little or no experience of working in the field of adult education. It contains a substantial practice-based element and combines the study of adult education's underpinning theoretical disciplines with the development of students' practical skills as adult educators.

    Content

    Students on the PgDip will undertake the following courses:

        * Principles and theories of adult and continuing education
        * Psychology of adult learning
        * International issues in adult and continuing education
        * Curriculum development
        * Placement practice equivalent to two units of study.

    Students registered for the MSc will complete a guided enquiry on a specific aspect of teaching adults in addition to the courses listed.

    Students initially registered for the PgDip may apply to be considered for transfer to the MSc, subject to achievement of the required grades. Similarly, students initially registered for the MSc may apply to transfer to the PgDip.
