Course description
Awareness, understanding and integration of sustainable
development issues within the design process are the
underlying issues of this course. A holistic philosophy
is the ethos of product design making sustainable
development a key issue. The challenge for designers is
specifying products that meet the needs of the present
generation, without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable
development needs to address issues that include
economic growth and employment, social progress for all,
protection of the environment and prudent use of natural
resources. This is a complex and multidisciplinary
subject and modern information technology is embraced to
facilitate and communicate effective industrially
relevant case studies throughout the core units.
