Course description
Programme
The MSc in Sound Design is targeted at individuals interested in exploring the domain of sound in the wider context of new media theory and technology. The programme is strongly interdisciplinary and course content ranges from study of film sound to interactive audio design, sound installation and web design.
This programme will provide students with knowledge, skill and understanding of a range of sound design situations both commercial and creative. Graduates of this programme will be armed with professional, practical, analytical and critical skills to take into sound-related industries or on towards further academic study such as a PhD.

The course is a one-year full-time programme that gains its impetus from a series of structured design-oriented projects. So the course is highly practical but with a strongly reflective and theoretical component that draws on contemporary philosophical and cultural themes. This makes both the MSc in Sound Design unique. Students will be expected to spend at least 10 hours per week on project work outside of formal study time. The Courses “Media and Culture” and “Digital Media Studio Project” are shared with the MSc in Design and Digital Media, MSc Digital Composition and Performance and MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology.
