    This programme is intended to provide both theoretical instruction and practical experience in the methods appropriate for scientific research in psychology. As such, it benefits from being offered in a dynamic and well-funded research environment, where nearly all academic staff contribute to its delivery. The programme also employs innovative assessment methods, including portfolio compilation, peer review and a research project in the format of a journal article.

  • Course description
    This MSc degree programme is an approved research training programme of the Economic & Social Research Council and can either be the first year of a "1+3" funding package or qualify you for future "+3" funding.

    Content

    The programme consists of five core courses: two in research methods; one in advanced statistics and research design; one in professional skills and one research project.

    Depending on the funding source, you may also be required to attend a course in qualitative methods. Additionally, you will complete one of a potential five optional courses in:

        * Human/computer interaction
        * Visual perception/cognition
        * Psychology of language
        * Issues in drug use research
        * Philosophy of social sciences.


    Additional course elements will include attendance at Scottish universities' psychology postgraduate meetings, departmental research seminars and journal clubs
