  • Objectives
    The MSc Project Management (Construction) course seeks to develop intellectual and vocational competencies in the field of project management. One of the key benefits of the course is that it is designed to enhance the knowledge and competencies of postgraduate students in the area of their experience and to prepare them for future career development in the construction industry. The flexibility offered by distance learning minimises the conflict of interests between study and employment commitments. The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and accredited for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). Commencement is possible throughout the year.

    Entry requirements A first degree at honours level or evidence of equivalent academic achievement. Applicants to study individual modules on a CPD framework basis should hold a first degree at honours level or hold corporate membership of a professional body approved for this purpose by the University. Applicants without formal academic qualifications but with relevant work experience will also be considered for entry.

        * project planning and control

        * postgraduate dissertation.

    Accreditation
    The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors  (RICS) and accredited for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
    Further accreditations are currently being sought.

    Assessment
    Typically assignments, independent study portfolios, examinations, dissertation.

    Resources and facilities
    Students typically attend 5 weekend schools at the University each year where the full range of University facilities and resources are available. Additionally, students are issued with learning packages and are loaned relevant textbooks.

    Study routes
    There are two study routes, Masters pathway and CPD pathway.

    Masters pathway:
    The course requires predominantly individual study by distance learning enhanced by intensive weekend schools. The course is designed to be two and a half years in duration leading to a Masters award.

    CPD Courses:
    Students who elect to study through the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework may extend their studies up to five years.

    There are two awards available for those not wishing to proceed to the Masters award:

    Postgraduate Certificate in Project Management (Construction)
    Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management (Construction)

    Currently a full-time mode and a part-time mode with regular attendance are being considered.
