Course description
The programme promotes reflection on the theory and practice of teaching, learning and assessment and other key areas of academic practice. Although targeted at staff in academic posts, the course is open to others who have teaching or related responsibilities such as postdoctoral fellows, graduate teaching assistants and librarians.
The Certificate is valued at 60 credits and the Diploma at 120 credits. The core modules are (credit value in brackets):
* Professional Development Planning (15)
* Learning, Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education (30)
* Integration and Reflection (15)
The Certificate requires successful completion of the Professional Development Planning module, the double module Learning, Teaching and Assessment, and one standard optional module.
In addition the Diploma requires successful completion of the Integration and Reflection module, together with three further standard optional modules or their equivalent. Progression to a Master's degree is through dissertation (60 credits).
Participants can seek recognition for appropriate prior formal learning (APFL) and prior experiential learning (APEL). The Certificate is accredited by the Higher Education Academy.
