Course description
Environmental management of civil engineering projects is of increasing importance throughout the world, so demand is growing for qualified and trained environmental managers. This course is aimed at graduates who want a career in civil engineering and environmental management and professionals who already have experience in this area.
This is an interdisciplinary MSc programme that provides an in-depth theoretical, analytical and practical awareness of selected topics. The
award broadens students’ knowledge and develops the key skills and management expertise needed to manage civil engineering projects and implement environmentally sustainable solutions.
This PgD/MSc programme is approved for the Further Learning Programme (formerly Matching Sections’) at Chartered Engineer (CEng) level by the
Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and the Institution of Highways and Transportation (IHT).

Plus one module from:
* Health and Safety Management
* Project Management and Techniques
* Urban Analysis
How To Study
Taught modules are delivered between September and May. Applicants working in industry may apply to study some individual modules as short courses on a day-release or block-delivery basis. Modules are delivered through a combination of formal lectures, tutorials and seminars by experienced academic staff with significant expertise in their specialist areas. Prominent industrial experts will be invited to give supplementary lectures and chair seminars. In addition, you will undertake a research project using the Faculty’s excellent facilities, and complete a dissertation on a chosen topic of interest.
Assessment methods vary; some modules are assessed completely through coursework, while others are assessed by a combination of design projects
and a formal examination.

This MSc award offers excellent opportunities for career progression. You can be a civil engineer or engineering project manager, or work in the environmental management sector with leading international consultancies, contractors, national and local civil engineering companies, as well as research. You may also find work with regulatory authorities, local government and non-governmental agencies.
