  It aims to develop and improve the understanding of the field of Geographic Information System (GIS) by mixing strong practical skills with fundamental theoretical knowledge that supports the application of GISc skills in any software environment.

  Entry Requirements A UK 2:1 honours degree or its equivalent from outside the UK. Students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English.

  Programme
  
  This is a world-class programme, which has been designed to provide a unique educational opportunity in Geographic Information Science (GISc).
  
  There are three streams: GIS (taught); GIS (by research); and GIS and Society (by research, for social sciences and human geography students). The GIS taught MSc programme is tailored to students who have their eye on the job market, with core courses that reflect the needs of industry and provide our students with a marketable edge. The GIS research degree supports students wanting to pursue future research and give those students who have a strong background in GIS the flexibility to take courses in other disciplines (eg Informatics) and spend more time developing their dissertation research. The GIS and Society degree encourages a critical view on the implications and societal ramifications of GIS.
  
  Learning Outcomes
  
  This intensive, one-year programme combines geographic information theory with the development of strong practical skills. The unique modular structure enables you to tailor the programme around your interests while requiring coursework that supports our claim that we produce excellent students with a strong background.

  This course is comprised of a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, assignments, field trips and a dissertation project.
