Course description
If you have a first degree in an associated subject and want to convert your skills to pursue a career in archaeology this course will appeal to you - particularly if you have some practical experience. Archaeology is an exciting and ever-evolving profession that requires a high level of skill and dedication. This course offers you the opportunity to build on your first degree to make yourself more marketable in the archaeological sector, while allowing you to tailor your studies to meet your personal needs and interests.
According to a report published in May 2016 by Historic England, there is an urgent need in the UK for more archaeologists following a surge in infrastructure projects, such as HS2, Crossrail 2 and major road upgrades. The report emphasises the importance of archaeological field schools to produce specifically trained graduates. Participation in the Big Dig allows you to gain a wide range of field archaeological skills.
The many optional units on this degree will allow you to broaden your skills and knowledge in areas including maritime archaeology, forensic archaeology, zooarchaeology and the core area of field archaeology. You will be taught by some of the UK’s leading practitioners in the sector, and under the guidance of this dedicated and enthusiastic team you can expect to develop your archaeological skills to reach your full potential.
