  Applicants should normally: -have an honours degree (2.2 or above) in a health-related subject -be a registered healthcare professional with a working knowledge and clinical experience of joint and soft tissue assessment -have evidence of prior learning of detailed surface anatomy and pathology of musculoskeletal conditions -have post-registration experience and be working in musculoskeletal practice while enrolled on the course. Applicants with other qualifications and experience may be considered if they can provide evidence of their ability to study at master's level, and their previous qualifications are considered commensurate with the full CAMS Level 3 criteria.

  This course provides the opportunity for registered healthcare professionals working in musculoskeletal practice to develop advanced clinical skills in the assessment and clinical management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions. The course is particularly relevant to medical practitioners and chartered physiotherapists specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The course is endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  
  Core modules include:
  
  Designing Research Projects
  This module will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to design and manage relevant quantitative and qualitative research projects.
  
  Dissertation
  This module enables you to complete an independent research project. You can discuss areas of interest with an allocated supervisor.
  
  Evidence-based Practice
  The evidence-based practice module develops skills in studying at master’s level, enabling you to make the transition to postgraduate study. It also introduces you to the key concept of evidence-based practice within a health and social care setting. Throughout the module you will develop practical skills in searching literature, critically evaluating and managing change. You will be able to focus these skills to your own specialist area of practice within the assignment.

  Clinical Management of Cervical Spine & Upper Limb Conditions
  This module integrates a systematic Orthopaedic Medicine approach to managing neck pain syndromes and upper limb problems. Practical workshops combine theoretical and experiential learning to prepare you to incorporate new skills into your clinical practice.
  
  Clinical Management of Lumbar Spine and Lower Limb Conditions
  This module integrates a systematic Orthopaedic Medicine approach to managing lumbar spine pain syndromes and lower limb problems through clinical reasoning and reflecting on practice. Practical workshops combine theoretical and experiential learning, incorporating your new clinical practice skills.
  
  Clinical Management of Sacro-iliac and Thoracic Spine Conditions
  This module integrates a systematic Orthopaedic Medicine approach to managing sacro-iliac and thoracic spine pain syndromes. It introduces advanced techniques for the lumbar and cervical spine and less common neuromusculoskeletal problems.
  
  Course structure
  Core modules focus upon evidence-based practice and research. Specialist modules address diverse clinical and practice issues in the management of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. You'll have the opportunity to carry out an independent research study.
  
  Professional accreditation
  You'll be eligibile to apply for membership of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine through an additional optional written multiple-choice examination and additional optional practical examination (currently only open to medical practitioners and physiotherapists).
  
  Careers
  Typically you'll gain employment as an advanced practitioner with a special interest in musculoskeletal conditions, extended scope practitioner or in other advanced clinical roles.
