MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Manipulative Therapy)
This course is ideal for registered healthcare professionals working in neuromusculoskeletal practice to develop advanced clinical skills in examining academic knowledge related to neuromusculoskeletal practice and applying specialist manipulative therapy. The course is endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Clinical Management of Neuromusculoskeletal Dysfunction of the Lower Quadrant
This module develops your postgraduate skills in manipulative and manual therapy approaches to assessing and treating neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions/disorders of the lower quadrant including the lumbar spine, hip, sacro-iliac joint, foot and ankle. You will revisit and develop applied theoretical concepts of anatomy and pathology, integrated with the interventions of manipulation and manual therapy concentrating on the lower quadrant region of the body. If you complete this module, together with two other named modules, will give an exemption if you want to apply for membership of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) (pending approval by MACP).
Clinical Management of Neuromusculoskeletal Dysfunction of the Upper Quadrant
This module develops your postgraduate skills in manipulative and manual therapy of the peripheral and spinal joints of the upper quadrant, including the cervical and thoracic spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, using an integrative practical approach with an emphasis on clinical reasoning. The module is designed to develop your skills in assessing and treating neuromusculoskeletal structures using manipulative therapy to a postgraduate and highly specialised level. If you complete this module, together with two other named modules, will give an exemption if you want to apply for membership of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) (pending approval by MACP).
Concepts of Neuromusculoskeletal Manipulative Therapy
This module develops your postgraduate skills in assessing and treating neuromusculoskeletal disorders using manual and manipulative therapy. You will be introduced to different concepts of manipulative and manual therapy enabling you to develop and extend your knowledge and awareness of the mechanical, neurophysiological, and biopsychosocial effects on each patient. This theory will help build your specialised and advanced clinical decision making processes. If you complete this module, together with two other named modules, will give an exemption if you want to apply for membership of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) (pending approval by MACP).
Designing Research Projects
This module will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to design and manage relevant quantitative and qualitative research projects.
Dissertation
This module enables you to complete an independent research project. You can discuss areas of interest with an allocated supervisor.
Evidence-based Practice
The evidence-based practice module develops skills in studying at master’s level, enabling you to make the transition to postgraduate study. It also introduces you to the key concept of evidence-based practice within a health and social care setting. Throughout the module you will develop practical skills in searching literature, critically evaluating and managing change. You will be able to focus these skills to your own specialist area of practice within the assignment.
Course structure
Core modules focus upon evidence-based practice and research. Specialist modules address diverse clinical and practice issues in manipulative therapy. You'll have the opportunity to carry out an independent research study.
Professional accreditation
Healthcare practitioners will gain exemption from the theoretical components of the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) membership curriculum.+ Physiotherapists will be eligible to apply for membership of MACP, with exemption from theory components.
