  MPC: 12 months full-time; 24-36 months part-time
  PgCert: 24 months part-time
  
  This programme is suitable for all professionals working in primary care development. Four of the core courses for this degree will be delivered in partnership with the Section of Public Health & Health Policy. Up to two elective courses from the Master in Public Health programme can be chosen as part of the Master in Primary Care. The research project should be work-based or have a primary care focus.

  Core course common with the MPH programme
  
      * Principles for public health and primary care
      * Introduction to statistical methods
      * Research methods and project, including a 15,000-20,000 word dissertation.
  
  Primary care
  
  You will take five of the following elective courses:
  
      * Change management for primary care
      * Chronic disease management
      * Clinical governance and effectiveness
      * Communication skills for primary care
      * Learning in practice
      * Partnerships in primary care
      * Social justice
      * Understanding evidence.
  
  PgCert in Primary Care
  
  A PgCert in Primary Care will be awarded to those students who undertake any four of the optional courses from the MPC prescribed programme, successfully completing the required assessments and therefore gaining 60 SCOTCAT points at M level. The core courses of the MPC are excluded from those available for the PgCert. Current courses comprise those in the elective list above.
  
  Following successful completion of the PgCert you may transfer these 60 credits to the MPC but would be required to apply in the normal way and fulfil the criteria for that degree. Entry to the MPC will, however, not be guaranteed and applications will be considered on an individual basis. Students who progress to the MPC must complete this degree within five years from the beginning of the first course of the PgCert.
  
  Continuing Professional Development
  
  A few suitably qualified professionals will be accepted each year to undertake some of the courses as part of a credit-bearing CPD programme.
