  • Objectives
    Today the business world is at a cross-roads: are we heading for further integration through globalisation or are we returning to increased localisation? Either way, businesses ignore trends in the environment at their peril. A comprehensive understanding of the issues that are beyond national boundaries has become an essential intellectual asset in all types of business, particularly within international business and marketing. The MA International Business and Marketing focuses on the ever increasing role of marketing in determining the success of large international businesses. Within international organisations marketing needs to be seen as the key activity in creating customer focus and in delivering the value added required to acquire an international competitive advantage.
  • Entry requirements
    The standard requirement is a lower second Honours degree or equivalent in business, finance, economics, marketing or related. Applicants with substantial relevant professional experience will also be considered. Those without the standard requirements can attend the Graduate Diploma Course in Economics or Finance prior to enrolling on this course.

    Course structure
    The course consists of six essential taught modules, five of which are core and one optional module, together with a dissertation of about 12,000-15,000 words.

    Core modules:

    -Economic and Political Environment of International Business
    -International Business Strategy
    -International Marketing
    -Marketing Communications
    -Research Methods

    Optional modules (choose one):

    -Marketing Strategy
    -International Business in Japan and South Asia
    -Cross Cultural Management

    Assessment
    A variety of methods are used including examinations, computer workshops, essays, reports, tests and case study presentations.

    Career opportunities
    The course will be of interest to graduates seeking careers in multinationals, import/export companies and governmental organisations. Those already employed can update their knowledge and/or improve their careers. In addition, it can lead onto an MPhil or PhD.

    Attendance and duration
    Full-time: 1 year, 2 days a week
    Part-time (day & eve): 2 years, up to two days a week
