  • Objectives
    These programmes analyse problems of management in the public sector. Interdisciplinary in nature, each programme includes teaching from two Birkbeck academic departments, focusing on management, and politics and social policy respectively. As a student, you will be taught by lecturers engaged in a wide range of contemporary research. These programmes are ideal if you are a public sector employee and want to acquire a deeper understanding of management issues and improve your analytical, research and communications skills. The MRes has a particular focus on developing research skills and is tailored for people considering study at doctoral level.
  • Entry requirements
    Entry requirements Good honours degree or equivalent. Two references: either from an academic source and a past or present employer, or two from an academic source. Non-native speakers need to provide proof of English language ability.

  • Course description
    Programmes are structured around taught core and option courses. As part of the master’s degrees, you will also prepare a dissertation on an aspect of public management.

    Core courses in Public Management, Principles of Organization and Management, and Research Methods I. The MRes comprises core courses in Public Management and Research Methods I and II.

    Other subjects which may be covered in option modules include: e-business, institutions and innovation; e-commerce, strategy and policy; human resource management; business ethics; and corporate social responsibility.
