Objectives
This course is designed to combine an intensive introduction to multidisciplinary study of the Arts with the study of the history and practice of Medicine. Essentially it investigates how the study of the Arts might inform the practice of Medicine. This is an opportunity to open up exciting new areas of medical debate through the study of history, literature, art, film, politics, psychology, and archaeology. You would emerge as a skilled writer and analyst of cultural discourse and, we would hope, be more self-aware as a doctor, and aware of others’ concerns, than you were.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements Medical Students / qualified doctors or health professionals. All candidates are interviewed. Evidence must be produced of learning and writing skills appropriate for Masters-level work, and candidates might be required to write an essay for this purpose. Generally, some clear evidence of a continuing engagement with the Arts will be regarded favourably. Other applicants: normally a good first degree (2:1+) in an Arts-based discipline.

-Issues in the Humanities (Humanism, Ideology, Gender, Colonialism/Postcolonialism)
-Research Skills (IT skills, bibliography, academic writing, presentation skills)
-Dissertation
Special Subjects:
-Literature, the Visual Arts and Medicine
Teaching and assessment methods
Core modules and many options are taught in the early evening to encourage part-time participation. Most teaching is done in seminar groups. Assessment is by essays and an IT project. MA students are also required to complete a dissertation.
