Typography - MA/PgDip
STRUCTURE | The programme is underpinned with support from key typographic practitioners, internationally recognised leaders in this field, These practitioners have been involved with development of the course content since the initial research process.
The course contains an element of teamwork with students undertaking typographic solutions in partnership with both 2D/3D disciplines. There is also professional, contextual and research content which are key issues delivered in modules across masters disciplines
Students explore advanced typographic solutions across print and screen employing type in static and motion form.
The programme explores the relationship and tensions inherent between type and image and also type as image in decorative application.
INDUSTRY FOCUS | This programme has been written with extensive input and feedback from graphic designers and typographic specialists with international reputations. The course produces graduates with an extended and advanced knowledge of typography and a high level of creative skills , this in turn leads to greater employment opportunities
MODES OF DELIVERY | Course delivery includes formal lectures, seminar presentations and critical debate as well as workshops, team-based and independent learning exercises, site visits, case studies, input from visiting professionals, and possible work placements. Material is also made available through the University of Salford virtual learning environment; Blackboard. Students are expected to be highly organised and motivated in order to maximise the benefit from the programme. Personal tutorials are held regularly as are module specific tutorials and informal ‘drop in surgery’ sessions.
