Course description
This course is for creative practitioners, teachers and arts professionals who want to expand their knowledge of using the arts for educational purposes. It is not about teaching art, it is about using arts and creative practice to aid learning, in any subject or setting. It includes school, adult and family education, and the role of education in galleries and museums.
Developed with the support of education staff in Sheffield Museums and Galleries Trust, it also provides you with practical examples and work placements.
Currently those in education receive almost no training in how to use creative practice in teaching unless they are art teachers. So initiatives involving artists, galleries or museums, often fail when visiting artists leave or projects end.
This award enables teachers to use arts and creativity in teaching in many subjects. It also equips gallery and museum staff to expand the use of their resources for educational purposes in new and creative ways.
We will help you to find work experience in a school, gallery or museum setting if you do not already have this, and will support you through this work placement.
