  • Academic title
    MA Graphic Design by Project
  • Course description
The MA by Project was developed for students interested in furthering their understanding of design research practice and/or graphic design history and theory and has been designed for those who have already established a research focus prior to entry.

The programme encourages an in-depth and critical exploration of an agreed self-initiated proposal that results in either a visual or text-based research outcome. It is intended to enable you to develop a greater critical and systematic understanding of graphic design practice, its history and theory, by engaging with a negotiated, self-initiated specialist research project. The Major Project may result in a visual outcome with an accompanying critical essay or be undertaken as a conventional written thesis.

As a student on this course you will be part of a thriving and vibrant research community comprised of other MA students, Research Degree students as well as staff who are actively engaged in design practice and research on a national and international level. The course is designed for practitioners and those working in the area of design history and theory who are interested in developing specific research projects within a graphic design research environment. The course is also recommended for students interested in continuing with their studies at Research Degree level.
