Brewlab is the leading provider of training and analysis services for the international brewing industry. It was established in 1986 at the University of Sunderland and in 2008 moved to new purpose selected premises in the city centre.

The range of training courses Brewlab offers are relevant to the first time brewer, the keen amateur through to professionals who are seeking to keep their skills and knowledge updated.

Brewlab courses are focused on providing the optimum blend of practical and theoretical skills. Sections of the training take place in regional micro breweries where students gain real hands on experience. This is backed up by the latest brewing theory and practice delivered in tutorials with on line support.

Students are taught in English in small groups of up to 12. This makes sure that the tutors can respond to the needs of each student as they follow an individual programme.

Experienced visiting lecturers are engaged to teach specialist subjects such as finance and marketing.

The Brewlab analysis services are comprehensive covering both chemical and microbiological assessments. These include accurate analysis of alcohol levels for the correct payment of duty as well as determining chemical characteristics and specific flavour components.

Brewlab offers first class yeast storage, culturing and handling facilities.

Brewlab has a wide selection of yeasts, including historic strains, to assist in the production of different beer styles.

As part of its extensive research facilities, Brewlab can help to investigate and overcome a comprehensive range of brewery related problems or faults that may be specific to your operation. We can also offer annual Due Diligence programmes tailor made to suit the needs of your brewery.
