    Entry requirements Access courses are open to all adult learners who have sufficient motivation, literacy and numeracy, regardless of sex, disability, or ethnic origin. No GCSEs are necessary, but we require all Access to HE applicants to complete an initial assessment test, and we may suggest that you undertake a 'Pre Access' course namely the Progression Diploma if diagnosis of your initial assessment test indicates that this would be beneficial.

    General information

    This course tends to appeal to those making a career change or those returning to work after having children.

    This course is approved by relevant bodies as a suitable entry qualification for courses such as a health studies or science related degree or HND.

    Course content

    The core part of the course includes: English, Maths, Science and IT. In addition the study of sociology and psychology is undertaken with particular emphasis on Health Promotion.

    Study skills and personal development units support the academic units.

    Teaching and assessment

    Mostly by assignments, but with some examinations to prepare for assessment in Higher Education.

    One must also expect a considerable amount of homework.

    Progression

    Most students choose to progress on to study health related disciplines such as Physiotherapy, Radiography, Dietetics, Occupational therapy, Biomedical Science. Others choose the Health and Social Care degree leading to Care Management.
