Entry requirements
It is essential to demonstrate at interview that you have a commitment to children and that you are mature enough to put childrens needs first. There are no formal entrance requirements, but applicants need to demonstrate an understanding of written and spoken English. References are taken up on all applicants. This course is not suitable for overseas applicants. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Duration of course:
This is a one-year full time programme, which offers underpinning knowledge and the opportunity to develop practical skills working with children under the age of 8.
Where does it lead?
Employment in Early Years settings, working with children under 8 years of age. Access to further training e.g. NVQ level 3 or Diploma in Nursery Nursing.
What does the course include?
Each week students spend two days on placement and two days in College. The units studied in college are linked closely with practical placement experience.
Students will learn about child development and how to plan and prepare suitable activities for children. The development of good interpersonal and communication skills will prepare students for working with parents and work colleagues.
Time is set aside for tutorial, additional language support and portfolio building. There will also be an opportunity to study first aid.
The course is designed for applicants who wish to work in local Nurseries or other local childcare provision.
