Course description
What is this course about?
The course will give you the underpinning knowledge and understanding for NVQ Level 2 in Early Years Care and Education. It prepares you to work in a supervised role competently, safely and effectively with children from birth to 7 years 11 months.
What will I study?
On this course you will attend training at College and through a work placement. Placements are carefully selected and approved for training to provide practical experience in nurseries and schools.
The course includes key skills modules in English, maths and IT.
You will study six core units:
# The physical care and development of the child
# Working with young children
# Emotional and social development
# Preparing for employment with young children
# Provision of food and drink for children
# Practical training, practice evidence record, professional development profile.
Assessment is by unit assignments and a multiple choice question paper.
What qualification will I get?
Certificate in Childcare and Education (CACHE - Council for Awards in ChildrenÒs Care and Education) is awarded on successful completion of all units, at least 80% attendance record and successful completion of the practical evidence record profile.
What can I do after the course?
After this course you may enter employment in day nurseries, with private families, community and workplace nurseries, or schools - including work with children who have special educational needs.
If you wish to progress on to higher level study, you can gain access to the Cache Diploma in Child Care and Education Level 3.
