What does it include?
This 1-year full time course offers you skills development in the areas of Sound Recording, Music Technology and Industry Studies. You will learn to widen your understanding of professional sound systems installation and related Sound & Music Technology equipment and its uses across a range of audio products and industry. The course will also give you insight into several related areas of work and the opportunity to develop your technical understanding and skills in the following topics:
· Sound Systems
· Acoustics
· Listening Skills
· Audio Electronics
· Introduction to Music Technology
· Midi Systems
· Audio Synthesis
· Sound Practice
· Industry Studies
· Computer Applications
You will be taught by experienced and dedicated lecturers, industry practitioners and technicians in our purpose built sound studios at our Paddington that have been awarded the Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status by the Learning & Skills Council. Your projects will involve working individually and as part of a team using professional mixing consoles, microphones, and multi-track sound recorders. Industry standard Apple computers and Akai samplers running software such as Cubase and Logic are also available for your project work.
We believe that supporting you so that you can pursue a future in Sound Engineering & Music Technology. The course will help you to improve and develop your communication skills with additional Key Skills qualification study. You will receive group and individual tutorial support to keep you on track and if needed additional learning support is available.
Where does it lead?
When you successfully complete this course you will have the opportunity to progress onto higher-level study such as a National Diploma or HNC, or pursue possible career opportunities in Music Recording, Live Sound Engineering, Systems Installation, Sound Design for Theatre & Film and Broadcast Sound for the Internet, TV & Radio.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework and exams. A commitment to high attendance and punctuality is also part of the overall assessment.
