Course description
Duration of course:
1 Year full-time.
Level 1 – 17 weeks
Level 2 – 19 weeks
What does it include?
The course requires you to study units within the Level 1 First Certificate in Sport course and on completion of this, you will progress directly not the Level 2 Diploma in Sport and Leisure.
The units for both of the courses will give you a broad knowledge and understanding of the Sport and Leisure industry. The course is designed to offer students the opportunity to learn a number of different teaching methods including practical sports, presentation and communication skills and then to develop their skills in order to progress at a higher level. You will be required to complete all tasks in a logbook format along with one online exam set by City & Guilds.
The units studied are:
Level 1 First Certificate (7 units)
* 101 – Introduction to the Sport and Leisure industry
* 102 – Introduction to working with customers and colleagues in the Sport and Leisure industry
* 103 – Follow safe working practices in the Sport and Leisure industry
* 104 – Introduction to health, lifestyle and the human body
* 105 – Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of Sport and Leisure activities
* 106 – Introduction to Sports
* 108 – Introduction to Exercise and Fitness
Level 2 Diploma (6 units)
* 201 – An introduction to working in the Sport and Leisure industry
* 202 – Establishing effective relationships with customers and colleagues in the Sport industry
* 203 – Maintaining safe working environments in the Sport and Leisure industry
* 204 – Physical and mental aspects of performance in Sport and Leisure
* 205 – Introduction to working in indoor sports
* 209 – Introduction to working in health, exercise and fitness
What do I need to get on to it?
GCSE’s at grade ‘E’ or below, ideally having some knowledge within English, P.E, Math and Science. You must also be enthusiastic and show a willingness to take part on the course. You must also achieve E2/E3 on the College’s numeracy and literacy tests at interview.
Where does it lead?
On completion of the Level 1 course, within the first half of the year, you will directly progress into the Level 2 Diploma qualification during the same year. Those who then achieve at a high level on the Level 2 Diploma course will then be able to apply for the National Diploma Level 3 course.
