Entry requirements
Applicants should possess relevant level 2 qualifications; 4 GCSEs at grade C, or an equivalent vocational qualification or relevant previous experience. Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on their individual merit. Entry onto the course is by interview, commencing in February. Applicants will need to bring to interview some pictures they would like to talk about. (These should be your own photographs or artwork, plus a scrap book of images taken from magazines etc). At interview you should demonstrate potential to benefit from this course. Course description
Duration of course:
Two years - 3 days per week
NB. Day-time programmes of study are available on a full-time basis, or part-time for those in receipt of DSS benefits and needing to satisfy the conditions of availability for work.
What does it include?
You will be encouraged to develop as a photographer within the ethos of professional practice. Learning takes place in excellent purpose built photographic studios, darkrooms and digital facilities using professional standard equipment. The course will give you practical experience and knowledge of all the major areas of commercial and fine art photography via challenging live project briefs.

- Developing & Printing Techniques
- Business & Professional Practice
Your learning will be supported by a team of experienced and dedicated lecturers and technicians, as well as visiting professionals who will give talks and specialist workshops to enhance your learning. You will be encouraged and supported to seek work experience. Regular museum and gallery visits are part of project research as well as attending industry events. The course has a history of annual residential visits relating to projects. The residential visit this year was to New York.
Throughout the course students have the opportunity to display their work and this culminates in a major exhibition.
We believe that it is important to support you so that you can pursue a future career in the photography industry, so you will receive group and individual tutorial support to help keep you on track and if needed additional learning or language support is available if needed.
The college is affiliated to the Association of Photographers and the British Institute of Professional Photographers.
Where does it lead?
On successful completion of the course students can pursue employment as photographic assistants / junior photographers or progress into HE study on BTEC HND/HNC, Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Courses.
