    It provides a good foundation in science and a progression route into the Business course at level 2, for which the level 1 Diploma is required.

    What does it include?
    The BTEC Introductory Diploma is composed of 10 individually assessed units and the Introductory Certificate is made up of 6 units selected from the list below:

    - Starting Work in Business, Retail and Administration
    - Working in Business, Retail and Administration
    - Introducing Customer Service
    - Personal Effectiveness
    - Social Responsibility at Work
    - Financial Management
    - Ensuring Personal Health and Safety at Work
    - Communicating Effectively at Work
    - Introduction to Retail
    - Introduction to Administration
    - Work Experience

    Most of the units are assessed internally by means of assignments, which are based on practical "hands on" tasks taught in the context of real jobs and careers in the business sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in that sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.  Two units are assessed using an externally set assignment.   All of the assignments are externally moderated by Edexcel and an overall grade of Pass, Merit or distinction will be awarded for the course.

    What else will I study?

    Key skills in application of numeracy, Communication and IT are developed by all students, and are assessed by assignments plus an external test.

    What do I need to get onto it?

    You need to be at least 16.  You may have obtained a number of GCSEs at grades from E to G.However, acceptance onto the course will also depend on your demonstrating an acceptable level of competence in English language. Students who have no formal qualifications will be assessed for entry by means of written tests in English and Maths. Support classes will be recommended for those students who need to improve their language or numeracy skills in order to benefit from the course.
