Course description
What will I study?
The course gives you the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working in an IT environment.
The course is made up of 6 units, chosen from:
# Using ICT to Present Information - you will use a variety of software applications to produce documents and a presentation for a specific audience
# Introduction to Computer Systems - you will learn how to select and customise hardware and software for a specific end-user
# Spreadsheet Design - you will create complex spreadsheets that use a range of formulae, functions and features, anduse spreadsheets to present, analyse and interpret data
# Database Design - you will gain an understanding of the basic principles of database design and you will develop useful practical skills such as creating single table databases with associated forms and reports
# Software Design and Development - you will design and produce a software application using the Visual Basic programming language and environment
# Numerical Applications - you will be introduced to a number of key mathematical ideas, and will develop useful skills and techniques that are applied them in different areas of ICT
# Networking Essentials - you will learn how networks enhance and enable communication within business and organisations
# Website Development - you will design and implement a multi-page web site.
All units are assessed through coursework assignments. Assignments test your ability to think independently and apply transferable analytical, design and evaluation skills.
You will undertake several work related problem-solving assessments that will closely match those challenges found in the workplace.
What qualification will I get?
BTEC First Diploma for ICT Practitioners.
What can I do after the course?
On successful completion, you can progress on to higher level study, such as the BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners.
