    Course Description

    This 24 week intensive course is for students wishing to further enhance their knowledge and understanding of pattern cutting to an advanced level. Students will need to work with focus and some independence, to achieve learning goals that help to prepare them for employment as a pattern-cutter.

    What does the course lead to?


    Enhanced pattern cutting ability and range. Taking commissions and setting up in business. The portfolio of work that you produce will support your application for employment or further education study.

    What does the course involve?


    Pattern cutting is the architecture of the fashion world. Therefore, attention to detail is imperative. This 24 week intensive course is for students wishing to further enhance their knowledge and understanding of pattern cutting to an advanced level. Students will need to work with focus and initiative to achieve learning goals that help to prepare them for employment as a pattern-cutter.

    The follwing areas are covered:

    * Ladieswear  to  menswear and disproportionate figures
    * Working drawings, working patterns and full production patterns
    * Production terminology and costing for the industry
    * Exploration of drafting techniques for designs given

    The course begins on 12th  September 2006 and runs on Tuesdays 10.00-4.00 for 24 weeks

    The course will take place in the specialist fashion/textiles studio.

    How much should I study outside class?


    Approximately 4 hours per week.

    How is the course assessed?


    Assessment is continuous and mock tests are conducted throughout the course.
