What is this course about?
The study of biology through a series of topics which promote a detailed understanding of the principles in real life contexts.
What will I study?
You will gain a thorough theoretical knowledge of the subject to enable you to progress to study biology or medicine at degree level (note that A -Level chemistry is also required to study biological subjects at degree level). You will learn through the study of contemporary real-life contexts, with biological principles introduced as they are needed, to enable your understanding.
For example in the topic entitled `Genes and Health+ you will study cystic fibrosis; its genetic causes, its effects on the structure and function of proteins in the cell membranes which affect membrane transport; how it is inherited, how it may be treated by modern gene therapy techniques, and the dilemma involved in genetic counseling of parents who carry the gene. You will take part in experiments, discussions, visits and interactive online activities from the course+s own website., ,
