    What background and qualifications do you need to join?

    You should have an enthusiasm for Beauty Therapy and the desire to learn. Applicants must have Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy. Suitable work experience and other qualifications would be beneficial as well as a reference from college. There will be a written test as well as a practical test scheduled. A good command of written and spoken English and study skills are an important tool. The ability to be self motivated and organised is essential.  All applicants are required to satisfy the course team of their suitability at interview. An interview will be arranged on receipt of your application form.

    What does the course lead to?

    Successful completion leads to an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy with the opportunity to gain employment as an assistant beauty therapist working in related industries such as a salons, hotel, department stores, fitness centres or progress onto higher level courses.

    What does the course involve?

    This course covers 7 units, which includes Health & Safety, retailing, contributing to the financial effectiveness of the business, Head & body massage, Indian head massage, Aromatherapy using pre-blended oils and improving face and skin conditions using electro-therapy.  All students are required to undertake 2 weeks work experience. You will also be expected to carry out reception duties as good practice.  There will be anatomy and physiology theory which includes knowledge of the skin, skin diseases & disorders, Skeletal, Muscular, Circulatory & Lymphatic system, Nervous, Digestive, Olfactory, of the body.  Students are required to wear a uniform during practical sessions once accepted on the course.  Teaching methods include: Lectures, practical demonstrations, group activities, tutorials, external visit, guest speakers and other enrichment activities

    How much should I study outside class?

    This is a comprehensive course that requires a certain amount of home study for both practical and theory each week to complete the course and your portfolio of evidence. Students are required to plan and participate in hair and beauty salon events and fashion shows throughout the year.

    What books and equipment do I need?


    You will need to purchase basic stationery supplies such as pens, paper, and a folder. Photocopy cards and floppy disks can be bought from the Skills Centre or Learning Resource Dept should they be required.
