Course description
You will write a 15,000 word dissertation worth 60 credits on a specific topic related to your programme, supervised by an expert member of staff. This will help you to develop your research skills, and is supported by a Research Methods and Skills course that runs throughout the year. The dissertation is submitted by mid-September in your final year. The Dissertation or Internship modules must be taken for successful completion of the LLM.
Through the LLM programme you will:
Extend your systematic understanding of the law together with a critical awareness of current problems and/or research at the forefront of your chosen subject areas.
Enhance your intellectual, transferable and interpersonal skills as well as developing other postgraduate skills including independent research, the exercise of initiative, and critical awareness of current problems.
Improve your prospects of professional, commercial, business or academic employment.
The Law Society recognizes our LLM programme for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (16 hours per annum).
Careers
The LLM programme gives you specialist and transferable skills that improve your prospects, whether in the legal profession or in a wide range of other careers. Teaching methods
Teaching takes the form of weekly lectures which are immediately followed by, and feed into, small group seminars. If you are studying full-time, you attend for two lectures and small group seminars per week and part-time for one lecture and small group session per week. You will be given reading lists at the beginning of each module to enable you to read widely and research issues independently.
Each module is assessed by means of an examination and one piece of coursework. You also write a 15,000 word dissertation worth 60 credits supervised by an expert member of staff.
