Content details
This course replaces the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education and the Diploma in Nursery Nursing (NNEB). The programme aims to prepare you to work in an unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children and their families in a variety of settings within the sector of Children's Services. It covers all aspects of childcare and education, including: child development, observations, providing safe and healthy environments, working with parents and the professional role of the childcare practitioner. It will incorporate training in the new Early Years Foundation Stage. Work experience in a school, nurseries and with babies (in a family or nursery setting) takes place over the length of the course.
How is the course taught
You have a mixture of lectures, group activities, discussions and practical activities. You spend a minimum of 125 days in a range of work experience placements over the 2 years.
Assessment
You are assessed mainly through coursework assignments, also portfolios, a short-answer exam and a final research project. Functional skills are assessed in Year 1.
Course leads to
You could apply for university courses in teaching, social work or related subjects. You could work e.g. in schools, nurseries, children's centres or families and later progress to a supervisory position.
