  • Objectives
    The course is designed to enable health, social work and other professionals in the child welfare and safeguarding fields to analyse critically and evaluate the current state of knowledge, policy and practice in this area. The course aims to link theory, research and policy in considering: -The nature of child welfare and safeguarding. -Multi-disciplinary approaches. -Integrated theoretical and practice frameworks emphasising anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice and empowerment. -The agency mandates and the individual learning and practice needs and interests of students. The content of the teaching assumes a working knowledge and understanding of UK policies, procedures and practices.
  • Entry requirements
    Entry Requirements -Normally a graduate with two years' post-qualifying experience in the fields of child welfare or protection. -Applicants without a degree level qualification or equivalent may be required to undertake preparatory work and/or a written assignment to demonstrate their ability to study at postgraduate level.

    The curriculum includes the management of child welfare and safeguarding, skill development (particularly in the areas of legislation, assessment; planning, intervention and prevention) organisational and policy contexts and the impact of professional roles.

    Flexible Outcomes
    The award of PgCert may be obtained following successful attainment of 60 credits, the PgDip requires 120 credits whilst the MA is awarded on successful completion of the dissertation.
