Course description
General information
City & Guilds 4100 Progression Award in Motor Vehicle Servicing & Repair (Level 1/2/3). The qualification is nationally recognised and at level two and three, can enable a candidate to gain employment within the retail motor industry.
Course content
This is a full-time programme of study over one year that has been designed to cover a broad range of practical motor vehicle servicing skills. Progression awards are intended to provide some or all of the knowledge and understanding required for the related NVQ. It will enhance employability and reduce the burden of assessment for future employers when the trainee begins an Apprenticeship programme. Students will study two days a week in a practical environment and one day theory-based study. Topic areas include:
* Automotive vehicle workshop practices
* Diagnose complex faults and repair systems
* Vehicle Fast-fitting
* Remove and refit components.
Teaching and assessment
A combination of continuous assessment, short answer test papers and the completion of an awarding body candidate portfolio. Computer based On-line testing. Examinations are done on-line with City & Guilds. If required, additional learning support, which is delivered in the motor vehicle environment, is also provided on an individual or group basis to encourage students to gain full benefit from their studies. This course provides the opportunity for successful candidates to progress to other full-time, or part-time study in motor vehicle subjects. Our realistic workshop environment provides all the necessary practical training for this course.
The teaching strategies delivered suit a wide range of learning styles. This includes: Information learning technology (ILT); classroom based delivery; practical tasks; simulated I.L.T. and workshop tasks.
Progression
At level 2, the Progression Award in Automotive Vehicle Servicing and Repair is appropriate for those who wish to enter the motor vehicle industry but are unable to access the N/SVQs. You may already have a GNVQ or similar qualification and wish to gain an appreciation of the fundamentals of the profession. After successful completion of the level 2, the candidate may be eligable to progress to level 3.
