  • Objectives
    Successful completion of this one-year course will normally allow direct entry to the first year of the four-year veterinary programme at St George?s University, School of Veterinary Medicine, (SGUSVM) Grenada, West Indies, leading to the qualification of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Graduates of SGUSVM will be eligible to take the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Statutory Membership Examination allowing them to practise in the UK. Entry to SGUSVM is conditional on obtaining an overall mark in the certificate of at least 60 per cent, a satisfactory reference from Nottingham, and a further interview with SGU who are responsible for making the final decision.

    Required subjects: three A level science subjects from biology, chemistry, maths and physics; applicants will be interviewed by both Nottingham and St George's University (see course overview) to assess their suitability
    IB score: 24-30 (including specified grades in science subjects and English language)

    Programme

    Year one

    During Semester 1, you will follow a broad base of modules in the Animal/Biological Sciences, including Cell Biology, Genetics, Whole Organism Biology and Biochemistry. Semester 2 incorporates more specialised modules in Genetics, Physiology, Endocrinology, Biochemistry and Nutrition to provide you with those elements of animal science considered essential for a subsequent Veterinary degree.
