General programme structure
This modular programme of study represents a cohesive package of management skills designed to enhance the effectiveness of all managers in junior or middle management positions in private, not-for-profit, or public sector enterprises.
This is combined with activities that improve personal and interpersonal skills to enhance your general competence and effectiveness. You will be expected to display your abilities in a variety of tasks, many directly related to your work responsibilities.
Early modules concentrate on generic knowledge and skills appropiate for all managers at any level in an organisation and, when successfully completed, these studies lead to the award of the Certificate in Management Studies. This phase is appropriate for all who wish to improve their general managerial competence, including graduate trainees and others with more limited management experience.
The remaining modules focus more on aspects that are required of departmental or functional managers, and successful completion of the full programme qualifies participants for the Diploma in Management Studies.

Phase one - Certificate in Management Studies (CMS). This programme is taught on a Tuesday afternoon and evening and comprises six modules:
-Accounting for Managers
-Role of accounting as a management tool to supply information for decision making and control.
-Economic Environment of Business
-How business organisations operate within the wider legal, economic and social context.
-Managing Information
-Practical insight into the role of information within an enterprise. Also, the techniques available to transform data into information. Analysis using real life case studies.
-Marketing for Managers
-Introduction to the general marketing function. Evaluation of marketing problems, and formulation of effective solutions.
-Managing Operations
-How the effective management of the operations function can transform both the service and non-service sector. Apply analytical, numerical and philosophical approaches to operations management problems.
-People in Organisations
-Examining relationships between organisational structure and culture. Understanding group and team formation and dynamics.
-Phase Two- Diploma in Management Studies (DMS). This programme is taught on a Thursday afternoon and evening and comprises five core modules and a project:
-Management Decision Making
-Identification of information needs. Selection of appropriate analytical tools and the contribution of finance to corporate management. Management accounting techniques.
-HR Change and Effectiveness
-Interaction and interrelationships between the management of people and their effectiveness within an organisation. Recognising the challenge and problems of managing change.
-Strategic Management and Innovation
-Establish an integrated planning process that will enable an organisation to operate effectively. Insight into the importance of innovation for the survival and growth of organisations.
-DMS Project
-Designed to integrate all aspects of the programme and will be a work based problem, usually based in your own organisation
