    The School of Engineering and Design offers a flexible entry route for the three MSc courses in Building Services Engineering: * MSc Building Services Engineering * MSc Building Services Engineering Management * MSc Building Services Engineering with Sustainable Energy The Foundation Course is specifically designed for those people who may not possess the entry requirements for the MSc. A number of you may have considerable experience in the Building Services Industry, some at senior level, and would like to undertake an MSc in Building Services Engineering and benefit from a formal qualification. Others may have acquired their academic qualifications some time ago and may wish to refresh their knowledge. The course aims to provide a thorough grounding in topics that are fundamental to Building Services Engineering. The course will also provide an indication as to whether you can devote sufficient time to the modules and allow you to determine whether you are suited to the Distance Learning mode of study.

    Course Details
    The Foundation Course comprises three modules. These are:

        * Foundation Mathematics
        * Introduction to Fluid Mechanics
        * Introduction to Thermodynamics

    On satisfactory completion of the Foundation Course all qualifying participants will receive a certificate and will be able to proceed to the MSc. The Foundation Course can be undertaken at any time but must be completed within six months of the start date. Progression to the MSc will take place in September.

    Assessment

    Foundation Mathematics is assessed by two assignments and accounts for 50% of the overall course marks. Fluid Mechanics is assessed by one assignment and accounts for 25% of the course marks. Similarly, Thermodynamics is assessed by one assignment and accounts for the final 25% of the overall marks. To complete the Foundation Course you must obtain good marks in all three modules and an average mark of 70% or more overall.
