  • Objectives
    This degree has been specially designed to provide graduates with knowledge and skills in the areas of both psychology and forensic science. The forensic science modules develop core aspects of forensic science in biological and chemical analysis in addition to general forensic topics. Graduates will be qualified to become graduate members of the British Psychological Society but will require a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology to be eligible for Graduate Basis for Registration, the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist.

    Year 1
    All students study the following modules:

        * Crime Scene Science
        * Forensic Biology
        * Scientific Data Analysis
        * Genetics (1)
        * Introduction to Inorganic and Physical Chemistry
        * Analysis of Biological Molecules
        * Research Design and Methods (1)
        * Social and Developmental Psychology (1)
        * Brain, Mind and Behaviour

    Year 2
    All students study the following modules:

        * Science in Court
        * Applied Genetics
        * Forensic Chemistry
        * Social and Developmental Psychology (2)
        * Research Design and Methods (2)
        * Cognitive Psychology

    and either Forensic Investigation of Accidents or Chemical Concepts.

    Final year
    In the final year, you must complete an independent Research Project, plus the following compulsory modules:

        * Interpretation of Forensic Evidence
        * Psychology of Crime and Detection
        * Health Psychology and psychophysiology

        * Genome Analysis
        * Medical Genetics
        * Cognitive Neuropsychology
        * Individual Differences in Development
        * Psychology of Work
        * Psychology of Consciousness
