Course description
BSc Medical Science
Programme
Medical Science is aimed at students interested in a career in a science or healthcare-related professions. It integrates basic biomedical science with a clinical understanding.
As part of this course students will study core subjects such as anatomy, physiology, immunology and molecular biology. Taking students from 'bench to bedside' the course integrates basic scientific understanding with knowledge of disease, clinical diagnostics and investigation.
The course is research-led reflecting the expertise of academic staff within the Faculty. Students will gain exemplary research skills from conducting laboratory experiments and desk-top research. Students will pursue individual interests in a final year research project, which also provides insight into innovation, intellectual property and commercial aspects of research today.
Medical Science is not a qualification in medicine but may assist in applications for graduate entry medicine or new medical care practitioner roles. It is distinct from Biomedical Science (BSc Honours) offered by De Montfort University which has a strong laboratory focus and is Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science and approved for registration by the Health Professions Council.
