Objectives
In the first year you will obtain an understanding of the principles of modern biology and the basic characteristics and importance of micro-organisms. In Year 2, you will obtain a deeper comprehension of important areas of microbiology, and progressively develop new laboratory, computing, data-handling and communication skills. In the final year you will acquire knowledge of the latest developments in key microbial topics and will normally engage in a laboratory-based research project. Previous projects have included Salmonella pathogenicity, influenza genetics, environmental-sensing by bacteria and viral-cell interactions and have involved experience in research laboratories, clinical laboratories, education and industry.
