BSc Cosmetic Science
Programme
This unique four year degree is a full time sandwich course, with the third year spent on industrial placement, and is the first in the UK to focus on product development for the cosmetic industry. The programme will provide you with in-depth scientific knowledge to create new products, plus an insight into the nature of the consumer and characteristics of the cosmetics industry. It is an applied science course, which encourages students’ creativity.
A number of course units are taught by industry experts. They are able to provide an applied industrial angle, alongside an insight into up-to-date scientific and technological developments. The course is supported by the UK industry, which provides students’ bursaries via the Cosmetic, Toiletries and Perfumery Association (CTPA).
The course aims to:
* provide you with a structured educational experience in cosmetic science, based on the study and practice of a range of relevant disciplines
* equip you with a working knowledge of cosmetic science and offer you the opportunity to apply it within a professional context
* develop your capacity to think creatively and independently in solving problems and pursuing new projects
In the first two years you are introduced to different aspects of developing new cosmetic and toiletries products. You learn the principles and scientific basis of formulation, manufacture and evaluation of cosmetic products, whilst acquiring an insight into the nature of the consumer and characteristics of the Cosmetics, Toiletries and Perfumery Industry.
The third year is spent in industry, where you have the opportunity to put your knowledge and skills into perspective and acquire 'hands on’ experience.
The final year of the course is focused on an individually negotiated final project, reflecting your specific interests and aspirations.
