  • Objectives
    This degree aims to apply recent developments in molecular and cell biology to a wide range of industrially important problems. Particular emphasis is placed on recent advances in animal, plant and microbial biotechnology. Topics covered include animal cloning, genetically modified crops and the detection of food pathogens.

    Required subjects: two A level science subjects (can include maths and geography), together with additional GCE Advanced levels or AS levels in other subjects IB score: 24-30 (including specified grades in science subjects and English Language)

    Programme

    Year one

    During the first year, you will study core modules in Biochemistry, Genetics and Cell Biology, Whole Organism Biology, Industrial Applications of Biology, Mammalian Physiology, Plant Physiology and Microbial Physiology. There is also the opportunity to choose other suitable modules according to your individual interests in the animal, plant or microbial areas.

    Year two

    Core modules include Mammalian Biochemistry, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Pharming and Genome Studies. During the second and third year, the number of optional modules increases.

    Year three

    You may choose to specialise entirely in animal, plant or microbial biotechnology; a research project is also undertaken in one of these subject areas
