Objectives
Biochemistry is a fast developing science which seeks to understand the chemistry of life processes, such as enzyme action, viral replication, photosynthesis and brain function. It involves the study of the structure of the components of living matter such as proteins and nucleic acids. The subject overlaps with other areas of biology such as molecular biology and genetics. In addition, biochemistry contributes to the design of new drugs and helps us to understand the nature of diseases, such as, diabetes and cancer. It also has a substantial input to the food, agricultural and biotechnological industries.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements Typical points score for entry 200 points. Specific requirements for this course are normally as follows: GCSE passes at grade C or above in Mathematics and English Language plus one of the following: At least one 6-unit award and at least two 3-unit awards, one of which must be Chemistry BTEC award with a Diploma or Certificate in Science. Successful completion of the Science Foundation year at this university. We assess all applications individually.
